Message
from National
America’s PTA
If you were unable to join me at the national convention in Fort Lauderdale this past June, let me say once again how incredibly grateful I am that you have entrusted me to be the first ever male National President of PTA. But I owe you even more thanks for your decision to be involved in this association at this time in our history.
We have reached a defining moment, and members committed to our mission have work to do. When faced with the question of whether you, personally, were committed to helping PTA reach out to all communities, you have stood up and said, “Yes!” Read more...

Message from Michigan PTSA President Mary DeYoung-Smith
Why are you a PTA member? People join PTA because they care about the children in their lives; they want to make a difference in their neighborhood schools. PTAs make connections between school and home, and between the community and school. Through these connections, you build a stronger community. That is what PTA is doing: making connections, building communities.
There are many benefits to having PTA in your school and community. When you belong to PTA, you belong to a network of over 5 million members, all working to support children. There are wonderful programs available to your PTA through your membership. Read more...

Welcome to a new PTA Year!
We start this year with many new faces on our Board of Directors – in particular, our new President, Mary DeYoung-Smith, who will take the helm and provide leadership for Michigan PTSA over the next two years. Of course, we cannot move on without thanking 2007-2009 MPTSA President, Debbie Squires, for her service and dedication to PTA.

MPTSA Membership
Get Connected…Join PTA!
The opportunities for involvement that PTA membership provides are of great importance. Research has shown that academic achievement among students is higher in schools with active PTAs than in schools without these associations. When parents and school staff interact positively and regularly, their enthusiasm and interest is transmitted to students.
The importance of PTA membership extends beyond the individual school. Current economic challenges require legislators to make difficult funding decisions. Parents, educators, community members and businesses need to work together to make sure our children’s education – the key to a successful and prosperous future – is not a victim of these tough times. Bad Behavior
These days you can’t pick up a newspaper, listen to the radio, watch television, surf the internet or update your facebook page without seeing people engaged in outrageous behavior in public, particularly in town hall meetings.
Now, I can understand that passions run deep, especially with the issues of the day, but really, is disrupting meetings, being loud and obnoxious, preventing others from speaking and invoking comparisons to long-dead dictators an effective way to get your message across? Read more... |
