Coordinated School Health

There are eight areas of coordinated school health where committee members can be involved.  They are:

Health Education = Critical Health Information & Skills
Physical Education = How to be Physically Active for Life
Nutrition Services = Healthy Nutrition Environment
Health Services = Essential Health Care for Students
Mental Health = Emotional Well-Being
Staff Promotion = Positive Health Role Models
Healthy School Environment = Caring, Safe, Healthy & Conducive to Learning
Family/Community Involvement = Home/School Collaboration

Where to start?
Here are some simple changes PTA’s have made

  • Healthy fund raisers -- walk-a-thon or Jump Rope for the Heart
  • Healthy snacks at PTA meetings, classroom parties, teachers lounge
  • Increased physical activity for students
  • Have recess before lunch to increase learning
  • Parent representative on the school’s Health Advisory Committee
  • Review your district’s local wellness policy
