ALEXANDRIA, VA — National PTA is proud to announce that President Laura Bay will be featured on Good Morning America, Thursday, Sept. 24 in a segment about the new “Be A Learning Hero” initiative. The leading national morning news program, Good Morning America reaches more than 5 million viewers across the country each week on the ABC Television Network.

“We are thrilled that such a prestigious news organization as Good Morning America chose to speak with our president and highlight the work of National PTA, in collaboration with Scholastic, GreatSchools and other leading education organizations, to help parents be ‘learning heroes’ and support their children’s achievement as the new school year gets underway,” said Nathan R. Monell, CAE, executive director of National PTA.

In August, National PTA, Scholastic, Common Sense Media, GreatSchools and many more of the country’s most trusted parent and education organizations launched Be A Learning Hero to arm families with tools and resources to help their children start the new school year strong and stay on track to success.

Through BeALearningHero.org, parents can find tips, fast facts, videos, guides and other resources specific to their children’s needs, including:

  • Super 5: The Learning Heroes Back-to-School Toolkit for Parents, which provides five important practical steps parents can take to prepare for the school year;
  • Skill Builders, which are designed to help improve children’s skills in areas where they need support;
  • Learning Tools in English and Spanish to help parents help their children succeed in math and English language arts—searchable by grade, subject and content type; and
  • Homework Help Desk, through which parents can get one-on-one support from trained teachers to help their children with their homework assignments.

“At PTA, we know the importance of family engagement at every level of education to support children’s achievement. We also know parents want the best for their children; they want to be heroes,” said Laura Bay, president of National PTA. “Through the Be A Learning Hero initiative, we want to empower families with the right resources to support their children’s learning and development and ensure a successful school year.”
