On Tuesday, December 8th, Julie Spence, President of Garfield Elementary PTA in Livonia, was recognized by the State Board of Education as the grand-prize winner of the PTA Family Reading Challenge. Julie was selected out of over 1500 participants nationwide.
The PTA Family Reading Challenge took place last July and was designed to inspire families to keep learning alive by reading together throughout the summer. Participants shared photos and videos of their family reading together on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using #FamiliesRead.
As the grand-prize winner, Julie was awarded two Kindle Paperwhite e-readers; a one-year, unlimited Amazon subscription; a trip for her family to National PTA’s 2016 Convention & Expo in Orlando, Fla.; and tickets to a Disney theme park. She will also serve as a Family Reading Ambassador for National PTA, encouraging families nationwide to read together to support student success.
