Michigan PTA President's Spotlight

Happy Fall, everyone!

Hopefully things are going well and everyone is settling in to the structure of school again. For those of you who are taking on new challenges in leadership--welcome! Don't forget to invite members of the Board of Directors to visit your schools and events. We want to share in all the great things going on with families throughout the state. Attached to this email is a form you can use to request assistance or presentations. The Board of Directors encourages Units and Councils to invite us individually and collectively to sporting events, PTA meetings, award days, and other community happenings.

Hopefully, many of you are getting started with MemberHub and have received your membership cards! I was so excited when my first one showed up in my profile!

Finally, thank you for all the concern you have shown for families affected by the recent hurricanes and other natural disasters. As always, you prove that the folks in Michigan have big hearts.

I look forward to connecting with Presidents in a series of webinars starting in October.

Thanks for your service to Michigan's children,

Sibyl Collins Wilson

The National Academy of Engineering is delighted to announce this year’s annual EngineerGirl Writing Contest on Engineering for Your Community. This is an opportunity for students in grades 3-12 to learn more about engineering and win cash prizes (up to $500). The contest challenges students to write a plea convincing others to improve their community’s infrastructure. The contest description on the EngineerGirl website describes the different systems of infrastructure needed and how one might go through the engineering design process to work through identifying the problems and coming up with the solutions. We have also included the following additional resources that we hope will make it easier for educators like you to help students make the most of this opportunity and stimulate engagement in engineering.
